I'm dying here, no new Bran Van or decent Tricky or Massive Attack! ARGH!

Does anyone have any band suggestions for me?

Biggest influences....

Tricky
BV3
Massive Attack
Modest Mouse
David Bowie
Bjork
NIN (by the way does anyone else agree that there is like one good song on this album, namely #8, "Only")
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Sublime
Marley

I'm so friggen picky though when it comes to sound... and I refuse to listen to the radio in my town... Any suggestions?

You may not like it, but i'd suggest Royksopp. The tracks they released off their first album can be seen as annoying, but the rest of the album worth listening to. Their new one is pretty good.

I reccommend Kemopetrol http://www.kemopetrol.com/. They're kinda pop, but funky at the same time

Placebo - Got it, love it, LOVE BRIAN! I could kick myself for missing them when they can to Washington state.
Cure - Don't got it, but on my way Smile that first song off Tricky's Back to Mine led me in thank goodness.
Interpol - Girlfriend has this and I just listen to it this weekend. That singer has got a truely beautiful voice... music kinda reminds me of Joy Division! Awesome!

Thank you all for your suggestions I havent heard of the other bands you all suggested but I'm checking them out now!

For anyone that hasent heard of them I recomment Modest Mouse. They are a small band from Issaquah, WA. (about 3 hours from where I live). They just recently got signed to epic i think and they do have a major label album out called "Good New for People who like Bad News" I have seen them about 10 times now around the Washington area. I don't know how to even describe their music except that it seems more real to me then the world we live in sometimes. One of my favorite lyric quotes from Issac (singer) would have to be this...

"Talking shit about a pretty sunset
Blanketed opinions that I'll probably regret soon
I change my mind so much, I can't even trust it
My mind change me so much, I can't even trust myself..."

Chances are you know someone that either loves them or hates them, it allways seems to be an extream...

Again thank you for your suggestions, if yal think of anything else please post it.

If you like Tricky and Massive Attack, then you might like Goldfrapp. She did backing singing for Tricky and i saw them supporting Massive Attack once. 2 very different albums though...1st (Felt Mountain) is eerie/classical, 2nd (Black Cherry) is almost pop/electro.

Ginger Ale does sound familiar. I havn't listened to them yet though.

Modest Mouse is not a small band, they're very popular here (at least in the States).

Interpool = pure goodness.

Havn't heard of Bloc Party.

Massive Attack = Great

About to check out the Siam Collective

All of ebb2012's list is good.

Havn't listened to Placebo though...

I don't like Bloc Party, Interpol are excellent though. Try listening to Architecture In Helsinki, The Unicorns, The Faint or Stereolab, they're the sort of bands I group with Bran Van 3000 in my music collection.

..better late than never Very Happy

Here is what I can wholeheartly recommend:

Icelandic bands:

Gusgus:

They have a similar approach as BV3 (a huge collective of people), they tend more into the electronic direction though. Try out there album "This Is Normal" - you will love it!!! They reformed in 2002, which means only 4 people of the original 9 left. But they are still pretty cool.

Songs that you should listen to: Polyesterday, Why? (with Emiliana Torrini), Ladyshave, Teenage Sensation, Bambi, Snoozer, Blue Mug...

Sigur Rós:

Really atmospheric music. Not much to say about them because they should be quite well known Wink

Múm:

Cute and cool electronic music. Check out there first album "Yesterday was Dramatic, Today is OK".

I also love Björk very much, so if you like her, you will love these bands as well.

UK bands:

The UK still has some bands that are quite unknown and that are not yet affected by the hype:

Oceansize:

Try to imagine Massive Attack+ vast walls of sound and loud guitars Smile
There first album Effloresce is really, really good. The 2nd one is a bit different but still pretty cool.

65 Days of Static:

Now try to imagine Aphex Twin+vast walls of sounds and loud guitars - haha. They have a very specific and unique sound. Really exciting and new.

I have much much more to recommend, but just to name a few everyone should know about:

Radiohead, Mogwai, DJ Shadow, Godspeed You Black Emperor, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, At the Drive-In, The Eels, Unkle and so on and so on.

btw: the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are AWESOME!
